Plein Air, by the Lake

What a beautiful afternoon, 

sitting quietly beside the lake.

The Sun was misty hazy softly shining... 

almost apologetic for last week's heat.

Downey Woodpecker

This is out of my sketch book and was drawn with a charcoal pencil. This drawing was created from a photo and not from life. Although I have seen lots of these little guys in the woods while hiking... One day I even had one land on my hand and take a sunflower... This event happened at the Lynde Shores Conservation Area  where the birds are hand fed throughout the winter and become very tame - lots of chickadees will land on your hand for the seeds and it is very special, although I have only had one little woodpecker land and take a seed and dart off to a tree to eat it... Made my day - I was smiling for a week.
